Like layers on an oil painting, the book blankets the reader in a plethora of characters and their back stories. While each chapter may only be a few pages long, the story that is painted is illustrious and substantial. Sensitive and controversial matters such as domestic violence, coming of age, racism, and sexual harassment are all explored within these succinct chapters. Sometimes less does indeed describe more.
